Aaron R. MacAskill Elected to Board of Directors at Annual Meeting
February 24, 2010Union Mutual Fire Insurance Company and New England Guaranty Insurance Company, Inc. elected Aaron R. MacAskill of Wilder to a three-year term as a director of both companies at the companies' February 24, 2010 Annual Meeting, President and CEO John H. Fitzhugh announced today.
"We are pleased that Aaron is joining us," said Board Chair John Osha. "His accounting background will be especially valuable as we lose the presence of David Coates, former managing partner of KPMG, who is leaving both boards after 30 years."
Mr. MacAskill is the Managing Partner of A.M. Peisch & Company, LLP, one of the oldest CPA firms in Vermont. He earned his Bachelor of Science from Salisbury State College and is a member of the American Society of Certified Public Accountants and the Vermont Society of Certified Public Accountants. Born and raised in Brookfield, VT, Aaron is very active in the Rotary Club of White River, serving on its Board of Directors and as its Treasurer and having served as President in 2007. He currently is a member of the Small Firms Task Force for PKF North America, a national association of accounting firms with over 100 members, and is the past chairman and member of the Hartford Parks and Recreation Commission. He is also a past member of the Upper Valley Estate Planning Council. He resides in Wilder, VT, with his wife and two children.
At the Annual Meeting, in addition to Mr. Coates, Mr. Osha thanked Allen Martin of Orford, NH, who also was stepping down from the two boards after 30 years of service. Mr. Coates and Mr. Martin had reached the board's mandatory age limitation and both are staying on as members of the companies' Directors Advisory Council, which is elected annually.
Union Mutual Fire Insurance Company and New England Guaranty Insurance Co Inc. are separate companies with an identical board of directors, and together with Eastern Mutual Insurance Company of Greenville, NY, make up an insurance group known as Union Mutual of Vermont Companies. The companies write homeowners, automobile and small business insurance in New England and upstate New York through a network of professional independent insurance agents.
