Flood Program

Your home and personal property are often your largest asset. Whether your home is located in a designated flood area or not, your chance of sustaining flood damage is three times greater than having a major fire. Unfortunately, most homeowner policies specifically exclude damage caused by flood or surface water that enters your home. To protect your substantial investment, the Union Mutual of Vermont offers federally funded flood insurance through the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP). This insurance is available to properties that are located in communities that participate in the NFIP program. Coverage can be obtained for your building and personal property.

Your local Independent Insurance Agent can determine if your community participates in the Federal program and determine if your property is located in a special flood hazard area. A professional agent can answer all your questions and quickly provide you with a quote for flood coverage.

IMPORTANT NOTICE: Changes to be effective October 1, 2009 for all new and renewal flood policies issued through the Union Mutual of Vermont Companies Write Your Own Flood program.

Effective October 1, 2009, the minimum deductible option will be increased to $1,000 for all flood policies issued through Union Mutual and the National Flood Service. All policies currently having a deductible of less than $1,000 will be automatically increased to the $1,000 deductible effective the next renewal date. If your home is in a Pre-Firm Special Flood Hazard Area, the standard deductible will automatically increase from the current minimum of $1,000 to a new minimum deductible of $2,000.
