Union Mutual Green Team Update
July 30, 2009The Union Mutual Green Team has been working hard the last few months planting, weeding, and picking vegetables from the company garden. It's been a tough season for gardens with the seemingly constant rain and few days of sunshine, but we've still been able to grow some great produce. So far, we've made three trips to donate lettuce, onions, and radishes to the Montpelier Food Pantry and the Ronald McDonald House in Burlington. They have been thrilled to take our donations and we look forward to providing much more produce throughout the summer.
After learning of some of the other needs of the Montpelier Food Pantry, we organized a Food Drive in mid July and delivered boxes of food and drinks to this important local, non-profit community agency.
The Union Mutual Green Team is an employee based group focused on making our company as environmentally friendly as possible. Some recent ideas become reality recently include All-In-One Recycling bins throughout the building to expand the types of materials we recycle in addition to using the funds collected from recycling returnable cans and bottles to self fund the company garden.
