Union Mutual Supports the 'All Day Power Play' Hockey Marathon for the Nashua Children's Home

August 10, 2009

On August 8 and 9 the 2nd annual "All Day Power Play" 24 hour hockey marathon was held at Cyclone's Arena in Hudson, NH to raise money for the Nashua, New Hampshire Children's Home.   About 60 devoted hockey players showed they were willing to skate for 24 hours to raise money for a cause they believe in.

The event involved 4 teams playing hockey on two rinks from 9am on Saturday morning to 9am on Sunday morning. One of the many highlights was an appearance by Boston Bruin's Alumni Rick Middleton and Bruce Crowder.  The ex-NHLers played for an hour or so and their skills and camaraderie were enjoyed by all present. Always willing to lace up the skates for a good cause, our Director of Operations, Gary Ouellette played this year and Union Mutual of Vermont made a generous donation to the Nashua Children's Home in support of his participation.

All fun aside the goal of the event is to benefit the Nashua Children's Home.  The program at the Children's Home is committed to the care, welfare and educational achievement of children and youth within its Residential and Educational Programs, and the successful transition to adult living of young men and women in its Transitional Living Program. The Nashua Children's Home provides care and stability to boys and girls unable to remain with their families, special education services for students who have not been successful in public school settings, and supportive housing for youth that have "aged-out" of care.
