Fernando Branco started his career in 2000 working in the call center for The Hartford Insurance Company. He quickly worked his way up to a supervisory position, which he held for diverse departments including sales, service, claims and group reinsurance. After his early experience, he retained his insurance license while working towards his bachelor’s degree at Albertus Magnus College in New Haven, CT.
Fernando decided at the beginning of his career to open his own agency in his community to help serve where he saw a need. As a trilingual person, he was able to help clients in English, Portuguese and Spanish, to understand their coverage and offer them the level of service he saw lacking in his area.
To this end, he believes that the secret to his successful leadership in the industry has been inclusivity and diversity at the agency level. He employs a wide array of people with various strengths, which he works to highlight. He believes that the numerous perspectives his staff brings to the table fosters a work environment where creative problem solving is fostered to best serve his clientele. It is his belief that this inclusivity and diversity of thought is the future of the industry.
He believes people should consider insurance as a profession for a number of reasons. He has found it to be a rewarding vocation that has offered financial freedom while allowing him to be a useful member of his community. It has also awarded him the satisfaction of knowing he has done what is right for the people he represents.
Giving back to his community is at the heart of everything Fernando does. He and his agency work closely with the local Toys for Tots, food bank and clothing drives. His agency has “adopted” a family every holiday season, providing a holiday dinner along with gifts to an underprivileged family from his home town. He even dresses up as Santa to deliver the meal and bring some holiday cheer. As a cancer survivor, he is involved in many local cancer charities, making donations as well as spreading awareness and participating in charity events.
An unexpected talent that Fernando possesses is his ability to identify a problem on the horizon and find a solution before it becomes a hindrance to his clients. He believes that this is a differentiator between him and other agencies. He will always consider himself a “student of the business” and continues to find opportunities to learn and grow!
