The latest Agency Spotlight shines on agency owner Leon A. Blake of LBH Insurance, Inc. Leon brings insurance experience from the ground up to his role as agency principal, starting as a CSR in a large call center. That career move came following an extended professional hiatus from a senior managerial position in the retail industry to care for a family member.
“Despite it not being a great career fit, it became the catalyst to a relentless pursuit of insurance greatness that produced various opportunities in sales, management and now Principal,” Blake said.
He believes the insurance industry provides significant gratification and showcasing the benefits of a career in insurance is key to attracting new talent.
What are common misconceptions about the industry that you don’t agree with? Despite so many adverse preconceived notions of the industry being cut-throat, salesy and money driven, our industry is one of a few that truly gives the opportunity to make a difference in people’s lives one way or another. Think of this career in the highest of esteem comparatively to that of any career; yet have humility in the position we hold. Be precise, intentional and purpose-driven with every thought and decision that is made. We have a lot of authority that requires moral compass, ethical characteristics, and full transparency. Always be cognizant of who, when and how your action can impact the outcome.
Why should people consider a career in insurance? As a member of this industry, we all play a crucial role in displaying the intrinsic value that is achieved in the services we provide through our daily tasks. There are many positive aspects that do not get acknowledged when it comes to insurance, its agents or the industry as a whole. By highlighting the countless agents who are out there truly making an impact in the communities that they serve, while securing their family’s financial future, is a great way to attract some of these talents who never considered this industry as a career path.
