Norfolk & Dedham Celebrates 200 Years with Historic Charitable Giving and Community Impact
Dedham, MA — Norfolk & Dedham Mutual Insurance (N&D) proudly celebrates its 200th anniversary in 2025, marking two centuries since its founding as Norfolk Mutual in Dedham, Massachusetts in 1825. To honor this historic milestone, N&D dedicated 2025 to an ambitious charitable giving initiative, reaffirming its long-standing commitment to the communities that have supported the company for generations.

President & CEO Joel P. Murray stated, “When we stepped back and thought of all the individuals throughout our history that have helped us reach this milestone—from current and former employees to our agency partners and policyholders – we felt the best way to honor these relationships was through meaningful charitable giving to numerous causes in our footprint. Simply put, this effort reflects our deep appreciation for our community members who make our success possible.”
Through the N&D Foundation, the company made several major donations – each exceeding $25,000 – to local organizations, including:
• Dedham Food Pantry
• Dedham Community House
• YMCA of Greater Boston
• Pine Street Inn
• Kelly Brush Foundation
• Clear Path for Veterans New England
In total, the N&D Foundation anticipates donating more than $600,000 in 2025, bringing cumulative contributions to over $2.2 million since its founding in 2017. This milestone underscores N&D’s enduring dedication to philanthropy, partnership, and community engagement. In addition, N&D launched matching donation programs for agency partners and employees — amplifying the impact of individual contributions and fostering a companywide culture of giving.
Complementing its financial giving, N&D employees volunteered throughout the year to assist community organizations and local causes. Highlights from 2025 include volunteer days with the American Red Cross Boston Food Pantry and the YMCA of Greater Boston Camp Ponkapoag. N&D also sponsored the Dedham Winter Coat Drive through partnerships with the Dedham Youth Commission and Dedham Community House.
“As a mutual insurance company, we take our role in the community seriously,” said Michael J. Tufts, Senior Vice President for People & Administration. “Our commitment to positively impacting the communities where we live and work is an essential component of our culture.”
As N&D reflects on 200 years of service, the company looks forward to a bright future, building on the foundation of trust, service, and shared purpose.
“We thank everyone – our policyholders, employees, and agency partners – for being a part of this amazing journey,” Murray concluded.
