Gary H. Ouellette, Executive Vice President, Retires after 30 Years of Service to Union Mutual

Union Mutual announces the retirement of Executive Vice President Gary H. Ouellette on May 31, 2021 after more than 30 years of service to the Company.
Ouellette joined the Company on Oct. 1, 1990 with a focus on fortifying Union Mutual’s technology position. During his tenure he has held several positions, including Assistant Vice President, Operations and IT; Director of Operations and Enterprise Risk Management; among others.
“Gary has been integral in the evolution of the Company’s robust Enterprise Risk Management strategy, keeping Union Mutual at the forefront of technology and information security,” Union Mutual President & CEO Lisa Keysar said. “We appreciate all he has done to make Union Mutual the strong, innovative and respected Company it is today.”
Throughout his career, Ouellette has lead Union Mutual to several historic milestones, including the transformational policy administration system upgrade to an internet-based system and subsequent migration of the system to the cloud. Other lasting impacts include:
  • Upgraded AM Best rating to “A” (Excellent) with Stable Outlook
  • 2015 ITA Bridge Award
  • Cresting $100MM in policyholder surplus
  • 8 consecutive Best Places to Work in Vermont honors
  • 2019 installation of a rooftop solar array at the home office
  • Chairman, Guidewire Leadership Council
“I have had the privilege of working with Gary as a member of the ERM Committee for seven years,” Union Mutual Board Member Mary Marchut said. “I will be forever grateful for Gary’s welcome to me. I so appreciate his mentorship and good-natured patience. I am also grateful for the lead Gary took on the revision of our ERM report system. I found him to be conscientious, prepared, and thoughtful. Working with Gary was a pleasure.”
